Did You Know…
When required to make a decision based on very limited information, the more prone we are to latch on to and allow arbitrary and irrelevant factors to influence our judgment. We're also more likely in general to latch on to facts and figures that support an opinion we already hold than to search for evidence that what we think might be wrong. Emotions can distort our thinking, too, but studies show sad people are more likely to make good choices because they take more time to consider various alternatives. Studies have also shows that people who are depressed are likely to have the most realistic view of life. This tendency is referred to as “depressive realism.” (New Science Magazine, 5-11, 2007)
