Did You Know…

There are 200 genes that distinguish those who successf ully quit smoking from those who don't, reports CBS national news. This complexity contributes to the fact that 80% of smokers who try to quit in a given year will fail . But there are two new treatments in the works could improve these figures. They are Chantix, taken in pill form over a 12-week period, and NicVax, a vaccine administered by injection designed to activate the immune system to respond to nicotine as a foreign invader. Success rates with those using these new treatments are still not high, but they are helping many succeed who have repeatedly struggled to stop smoking.
