To try alternatives to rest and liquids to beat these.
What I Discovered
What I found is that taken at the early outset of a cold or flu, they usually cut it off; taken once they have begun, they almost always shorten them: (1) Horsetail Grass-Thyme Tea*. Make 32 oz by boiling water for 10 minutes (using two tea bags), and then let cool while adding a tablespoon of thyme in a tea strainer and steep it for 10 minutes. (Thyme also works to calm coughs.) *Horsetail grass tea is packaged in bags by Alvita and sold in health food stores. (2) Booster-Upper Blendtm -- In a few ounces of warm water, combine the amounts recommended on the bottles of these liquids: • Astralagalus • Echinacea purpurea* (evidence that leaves stimulate the immune system) • Elderberry extract (some consider more effective than Echinacea; Sambucol is the most available brand in liquid form) • Licorice (a recognized immune booster) • Lomatium (an anti-viral and an anti-bacterial) We take each up to three times daily.
