FEET - PAINFUL TOES submitted by Paul on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, 13:30:24

What The Doctor Didn't Tell Me

Like one in every two people over the age of 50, my feet began painfully reminding me I probably had traveled over 100,000 miles on them. When I was younger a callous developed on the little toe of my right foot that I would have removed every few years by a podiatrist. This was better than the surgery one podiatrist recommended. When I saw a podiatrist about a year ago, he told me my problem was no longer a callous. Instead my little toe and its companion were curling under one another. He recommended that I use foam or gel toe separators. He gave me a few and I tried them. But they would slip out during the day and instead of relieving my discomfort, became the equivalent of a pebble in my shoe.

What I Discovered

I saw an ad in the Health section of the LA Times for something called “Yoga toes.” So we ordered a pair - first for Sarah who has her own toe problems -and they were helping her. So I ordered a pair for myself and by putting them on for an hour a night which works for me, my foot pain has disappeared. Apparently there are a number of makers of Yoga toes and you can easly find them on the web. Some instructions say you don't need to use them nightly to get a benefit. What I do know is I can go on walks in the woods now without asking myself, “Do I want to for a walk enough to endure foot pain?”
