SLEEPING THROUGH THE NIGHT submitted by SAE on Thursday, July 3, 2008, 17:51:38

What The Doctor Didn't Tell Me

After having a hysterectomy I had a dreadful time sleeping. I would wake up in the middle of the night wide awake and I wouldn't feel sleepy again until mid-morning, when of course I needed to be working. Then I would be exhausted. I was dragging myself through the day, day after day, always tired, exceptat 3:30 in the morning. I spoke with more than one doctor about this problem but none would prescribe sleeping pills, which in hindsight I'm glad. They recommended allthe standard things I was already doing - relaxing before bedtime, no coffee at dinner, etc.So I tried experimenting with things on my own. I tried Melatonin, St. John's Wort, Kava Kave, Tylenol PM, and more. Still wide awake at 3:30 AM.

What I Discovered

One day I raised this problem with a friend of mine. She sympathized because she'd had the same problem until she began taking three-3 mg “time-released” Melatonin tablets before going to bed. She even loaned me some to try out and I've slept right through the night and have ever since. That was many months ago. It has been a blessing. It seems it was the 9 mg and the “time-released” that make the difference.
